Community Fundraiser Coming to LincOne: Help Bring a Mobile Autism Calming Unit to Lincoln

Mark your calendars on Saturday, August 22, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, LincOne Federal Credit Union is proud to open our doors to Autism Support Unit LLC for a free, family-friendly community fundraiser right here at our 2500 N Street, Lincoln, NE 68510 location.

This isn't just a fun afternoon out (though it will be that, too) it's a chance to help our community take a real step toward something meaningful: a mobile Autism Calming Unit. This sensory-friendly space is designed to give autistic individuals and others experiencing sensory overload or emotional distress a safe, calming place to turn to when they need it most.

What to Expect

Admission is completely free, and there's something for everyone:

• Local food vendors serving up a variety of delicious eats
• Local businesses and makers showcasing unique products and handmade goods
• Raffle prizes donated by generous community supporters
• A special appearance by Keenan Eats

Organized by Soulfull Cocina, featuring more than 20 local vendors including, A Cup of Happiness, Anna's Pupusas, Lila Mae's, Inclusive Spaces Consulting, Hunter's 3D Printing Studio, Bradley Bonbons, Family First Life, Butter Batch Popcorn, The Open Chapter, Vinni Bloom, Kajani Roots, Crepe Cafe, Barks & Bites, Flutterby Creations, Street Treats, Rainas on the Run, Black Sheep Fusion, Soulfull Cocina and Peace, Love, & Tacos with more to be announced

The Inspiration Behind This Event

Chris Szydelko, Founder of Autism Support Unit LLC, had this idea for an ASU (Autism Support Unit) Calming Unit for a reason that is near and dear to his heart. Chris is the father of a child with autism and has seen firsthand how unexpected situations can cause sensory overload and anxiety and can become overwhelming very quickly. Families with autistic children may not attend events or feel the need to leave early because there isn't a quiet, safe place where their loved one can regulate before returning to an event. Chris' vision is to change that by having an ASU Calming Unit - a mobile sensory-friendly space on wheels that can be used at schools, festivals, and more. By having a calming unit directly accessible for the Lancaster County Community, Chris hopes to:

• Help families remain at community events and have an outlet for when an autistic family member can regulate
• Reduce stressful situations before they escalate into crises
• Provide event organizers in the Lancaster County Community with a brand new resource
• Create inclusion by making public events even more accessible 
• Demonstrate to families that our community values and supports individuals with unique needs

Chris has a fundraising goal of $25,000 for this project. He has already hit the ground running with $1,010 raised so far 

Every purchase, raffle ticket, and share helps Autism Support Unit LLC move closer to bringing a mobile Autism Calming Unit to our community, giving families and individuals a resource that isn't always easy to find.
